History: This is the most recent release. When working for the ‘Pose EP’ I started to make tracks that didn’t match that EP’s feel but had a common style and atmosphere so I decided to start a new one. This is one of my favourite Demos and I have received really positive feedback from people all over the world thanks to my myspace site. I’ve also played some live shows introducing these new tracks and people’s response has always been really warm. The sound is very dark and perhaps ‘retro’ but the tracks sound like very new. I hope you like it!

History: This is a very strange EP… The idea was making seven songs timing seven minutes aprox. each. José Morraja had a very clear idea about the sleeve pic and some promo ones. It is unfinished… There are really just five tracks because ‘Think’ was made just after finishing ‘Save The Robots’. Perhaps this track should be a part of ‘Save The Robots’, but as I distributed some copies of that one, I preferred to stick it here. The seventh one is still undone… mabe someday. The collection is very heterogenic, mixing different styles but the result puts them all together perhaps due to kind of a black halo surrounding the whole work. The first track, ‘Eat The Beat’ was released by Magnolia Digital together with two remixes of the track by I-B and Nikola Gala. They can be downloaded at www.beatport.com and www.audiojelly.com. ‘DAN-1′ was made after a destroyer weekend in Barcelona, (afterhours pre-flight back included). I love it. And I think ‘Black mountain queen’ is a favourite. When playing in the FIB festival, a girl from London approached me and said this track had been her fav. I posted a CD to her… I think it is also one of Raquel Meyers‘ (my mate, at the visuals when playing live) fav tracks. ‘Pose’ is somewhere between Elektro, Techno, EBM… and ‘Raise’ is a progressive electronic one. I’m sure the collection worths listening.

History: This Demo witnessed a change in rubeck’s style. It includes no IDM tracks but a more Electro, Techno, EBM-ish sound. The change was triggered by the breaking up of Elevator, a project shared by Jose Morraja (Visuals), Marisol Simó (Visuals and vocals) and rubeck (Music). Elevator made a more electro/techno sound and the music was aimed at being put together with videos shot by Jose Morraja and Marisol Simó. Though splitting up, we have keept on collaborating in very interesting projects.
I really love this Demo because it made possible the beginning of rubeck’s live performances together with the video artist Raquel Meyers. Nowadays we still play tracks from this Demo and people really enjoy them. ‘Auf Wiedersehen’ has become a fav for my friends. I remember playing live in Overflow… when the gig had finished (at 9:30 am and after a night long party with MOTOR and THE PRESETS) people asked for more and I ventured to play the gay politox ode ‘Tonight’… It was great! But there is also the everlasting dark fog around… and if you don’t realise it, the last track, the instrumental ‘Log rain’, will clear out any doubt…

12. slav II
History: ‘Slav’ is the third part of a trilogy that started back in 2000 and consisted of ‘Spheres’ (2000), ‘recycliert’ (2001) and ‘Slav’ (2004). This part is the most melodic and synthetic one. Despite it features lots of samples, most of them are vocal add ons which make not a base for the music composition. It was the most ambitious one, both musical and visually. The cover’s pictures are my friend’s and my own ones when we were children. I tried to make up a work based on them. Each track is dedicated to one of them and features some sounds or melodies that have to do with how they are, or were in the moment I arranged the CD. The original package of the CD consisted of seven vegetal paper cards, each one featuring a pressed picture so you could choose the cover. The transparent nature of vegetal paper gave the work a very interesting feel… as transparent as children are… as fragile as the melodies in the work… The CD version also included the video ‘Fear’ (’Ku’) by Marisol Simó as well as a collection of different takes of some songs and remixes in sort of a built in ‘microsite’.

History: This is the second part of this kind of trilogy (described in ‘Slav’ post), and being the one in the middle makes it both ’slav’s’ predecessor and ‘Spheres” heir in many ways. It fills the voids of ‘Spheres’ and gives a clear view of what would come later on… Listen and you’ll understand.
The ‘jelly heart’ pics were thought and made by Marisol Simó. The pictures show a heart made of jelly and were taken throughout the jelly’s melting process.

History: This was rubeck’s first Demo CD. This work is based on sampling. I played with autosampled naive melodies and crunchy rhythms. ‘Liquid Sphr’ was included in the compilation ‘Herramientas para la supervivencia urbana’ released by Kaufman Inc. and Subterfuge Records (2000). Regarding the artwork, Marisol Simó had just made a photo work dealing with the sea and two shipwrecked guys (my friend Ginés and I). The inner booklet included the plastic bag pic with the ‘unsuitable for children’ message on it (see below). The track ‘The Mermaid Song’ really matches that message: the sea, suffocation, fear… Each CD included between the bottom and the jewel case transparent tray, an electronic piece taken from broken cassette players, lamps, computer discs… It made each copy unique for it was nearly impossible making two identical packages.
